This year I went to the Mountain climbing conference in Nieuwegein as well as the Walking & Cycling Fair in Utrecht. Both fairs brought inspiration and insights into what I want in terms of walking.
Mountain climb congress
Indeed, it was mainly about hiking and climbing in the mountains. Climbing is not for me, just like walking in the cold and rain. Still I went there with a purpose to see if I could find information about the 88 temples route in Japan. Unfortunately they did not have anything about this trail. A lot of other walks, but less the walks that I find attractive. A lot of walking at height and many routes that must be covered with special climbing equipment. I would like to walk a life a little longer so I leave these trails to others.
Walking & cycling fair
Look this is more my thing. Almost every stall had a route that I would like to walk. I got overflowed by inspiration and did not see anything of the bicycle part of the fair. The multi-day hiking trails in the Netherlands and beyond attracts me. I heard them call my name at the fair :-).
Trained through Corona time
The first goal is to come from the corona era with many local walks in the legs. So I am walking all the ns hikes in the province of Utrecht. There are 12 in total. I also bought a booklet with 11 walks in the province of Utrecht. This book contains shorter walks in terms of kilometers, but well worth mixing them up. I also found some walking routes on the internet near my house. So I am going to try them out too.
But when we can then….
When we finally have our freedoms back, I would like to finish the Pieterpad, hike the Utrechtsepad and Westerborkpad this year. And if we can go abroad, then I would like to take a route where the sun is still shining, so walk to Rome via Assis, for example, or take a train and walk at Lece (southern Italy). But there are more ideas. So first wait and see what will happen to our freedom in the comming months.

I know we have to keep a distance of 1,5m. And I do that on my hikes, which are mostly on empty routes, because I hike during the week not in the weekend mostly.
If you would like to start with hiking I can recomand you to hike short distances first or maybe take a hiking course. I found this online hiking course that Wanda gives. It is a good way to prepare yourself for hiking.
