Ubud, Hiking through the rice fields

Ubud, hike through the rice fields

Back in 2014 I was fierless and went on a Hike through the rice fields of Ubud. Ubud is a very busy city, with lots of tourist. Also it is the centre of religious Bali and art community. Back then it was also the place to be for digital nomads.

Busy Ubud

But I was looking for rest and quietness. That is when I discovered that
there was a hiking track surrounding Ubud. You start at the end of Ubud and
hike through the rice fields and the art villages. Each villages had its own
speciality in art.

The hike

It was a great walk. I loved the views and the art I saw on the way. The
path is not marked well so be aware of where you have to go. Have a coco in the
fields and a talk with the locals.

Reading is not relaxing

Bali Amed

Bali in one word relaxing. Totally different from western world, but sometimes it can also be frustrating. I mostly went to Bali to relax and take a break from Australia which was really getting to me. I found this in Bali … most of the time ;-).

The beach was relaxing, walking in the rice fields was. Even being talked to all the time was ok. But a few things got to me and got me totally frustrated. Before I dulge into this I must say these things frustrated me because of my character and others mind like it. And I had a really wonderful time there and would visit again to relax, maybe than these things wouldn’t get to me anymore ;-). It seems that everybody wants to sell something to you. You are the walking cash machine. Of course we may have in general more means then people living there, but this doesn’t give people permission to try to milk you or get angry at you for not going into their shop. Another thing that got to me is. That as people see you reading they think you should relax. And relax means in Bali doing nothing or talk to each other. Remember, as I told you before I am an extreme introvert, who enjoys talking to others, but in small doses. But in Bali there is no small doses, one after the other wants to talk to you. And me being nice I answer them all, but then at the end of the day I am exhausted and fled to my room to read in quiet peace. :-D

Taking me seriously

Hello there,

I want to share some facts with you, before I get to my story. I am now in my third month traveling as an location independent entrepreneur. Tomorrow I start my last week in Australia. I traveled through a lot of nice places around Australia and when I needed a break from Australia, I took a three week trip to Bali. Bali is an amazing place, nature and culture wise.

Besides traveling, seeing and experiencing a lot. I worked for my clients in Holland on ongoing project I had started before I left. But now that the projects are coming to an end, it’s time to start thinking about marketing of my life as an location independent entrepreneur. Which is quiet difficult, because even my friends still see my traveling as a vacation. Wonder why 🙁 ………

Maybe this has something to do with the pictures and videos I post of beautiful places I have been to. And maybe because with the choice for this kind of life came also less stress, getting to know myself better and room to learn a few new skills like video editing, meditation and advance Spanish.

Or maybe it has something to do with how I spend my day :-). Yes, if there is a beach or a park, I will do the work from there if I don’t need a computer. And yes, I start my day with long walks or yoga/meditation on the beach, before I work.

But still I am working, not fulltime anymore from a dull office [Sorry had to say that ;-)] like in Holland, but from inspiring locations all over the world!

Australia
