Half the bus for myself
In the first month of the Veterinary Medicine study you do an internship for a week to learn how animals are treated. I drew a pig farm in IJsselstein (Utrecht). It was when Swine Fever measures were in place. In every stable different work clothes and caps on your boots to prevent spread of the disease.
It was also the transition time that ears and tail were only allowed to dock in piglets. I was allowed to do this with the newborn piglets. What a noise piglets can make. Fortunately, this procedure without anesthesia is abolished.
That week I went by bus to and from the farm. On the way there were always people sitting next to me, but on the way back I had plenty of space. So I had half the bus for myself. This was of course due to the delicious pigsty perfume that sticks to you. Washing or showering briefly does not help. 🙂 . And that was what I could do at the farm.
It was a nice experience fresh from the Island of Curacao to discover the farm life in the Netherlands. I would still work there if it paid better.
