My after Corona Bucket List

I would like to share with you my bucket list for after Corona era. Actually, it is more of a goal list next to a wish list. There are financial goals, but also travel goals. This list is the result of many hikes where I had a lot of time to think.

Goal 1: Reach FIRE before I am 50

Fire stands for Financially Independent and retire early movement. A few years ago I had already thought that I wanted this and this year I discovered that there is a name for it, namely FIRE. To achieve this, I am accelerating my repayment of my student debt of 33,000 euros and I am building buffers for Databeet as a private of one year each. With Corona measures, I have noticed that a 3-month buffer, which is usually recommended, is too thin. So hence 1 year for both private and Databeet. I have also expanded my investment steps. I have been investing through Crowdfunding and bonds since 2013. That yielded quite a bit. So I expanded this in 2018 with Brightpensioen and this year even with shares and EFTs. So for the time being I am on schedule.

Goal 2: Lose weight

This is a tricky goal associated with my medicine use that needs to be tapered off in very small steps, but with every step it takes 2 kilos off. The medicine can be good for somethings, but have very unpleasant side effects for me such as gaining more than 20 kilos without eating more or more unhealthy food, liver values that are too high, slower eye / hand coordination and some more I won’t bore you with. These are the ones that bother me the most, so I decided to take the risk and phase it out.

Goal 3: Passive income

Because of the Corona measures, I finally have time to do the things that were on my target list for a long time, namely building up passive income. So I am busy with Affilliates in my blogs, collaborating on barter principle, making ecourses from the lessons that I have been given for almost 8 years and eventually developing my book ideas into books.

Goal 4: Walking, Walking, Walking

I walk two to three times a week, long distances from 15 km and up at a time. I like to share these beautiful areas with my followers so soon I will launch my special Hiking website. Then my hiking adventures abroad in the past and my future hiking adventures will also be on display.

Goal 5: Travel even more

Yes my travel bucket list is long. And my work allows it to travel again so San Francisco, Seattle, Bhutan, Chile, Chernobyl, Auschwitz, etc can expect me. Hopefully the Corona measures will ease soon.

Goal 6: Tiny house with mini vegetable garden

My ultimate bucket list item is to live in a Tiny house with a vegetable garden around it. Where I don’t know yet, but the tiny house I already know which model I want. And the vegetable garden is also going to be okay since I already took two wild picking courses last year and will be following another one next year.

What are you looking forward to when relaxing the Corona measures? And what do you still want?

1st quarter 2020

1st quarter 2020

The first quarter of 2020 started with me as a digital nomad working on Curaçao. That means a lot of work on own projects such as my website and digital cleaning. Besides of course enjoying the sun and company of my family. There were also three paying assignments, namely:

  • Check Laudius Big Data course homework. This is a course that I developed in collaboration for Laudius in which the basis of Big Data is explained. Students can choose to hand in their homework and then I or the other teacher will check it.
  • A website of my former colleague that was pulled out of the dust.
  • Coding a question in a French survey. in emotions
  • Coding a Dutch questionnaire about emotions.

Februari

In February I was back in the country and soon started working on a website for a customer and fieldwork. February ended with a nice question if I wanted to supervise a project for the part for which Antilleans would be interviewed. The first online course had been successfully completed and on-site training was already planned when the Corona measures came into effect.

Unfortunately, that was not the only project that was postponed or canceled. Suddenly my entire agenda was empty again. Except for three projects. It was shifting gears, but then you pull out all the ideas you ever wanted to do. So I started working on:

  • Make my website including the blogs bilingual. That is now completed.
  • Preparing to convert my workshops into online training. I will be working on this this week and hope to put them online soon. In any case the first up will be Excel, Word and PowerPoint training.
  • Setting up Affilliate and then received a request for Affilliate via mail.

In addition, I have an application for another WordPress website so it would be nice.

Turnover first quarter

First quarter turnover was okay, as I had taken it easy the first month and in March’s Corona measures went into effect and almost everything was canceled. I promised that 1% of first quarter turnover would go to the Food Bank (Voedselbank). So that’s going to happen, unfortunately a lower amount than I had hoped for is going to the Foodbank of Curaçao (Voedselbank Curacao).

Second quarter

Quarter 2 runs from April 1 through June 30 2020. The first month the Corona measures will certainly still be in force, so there is enough time to set up the online courses and affilliate. I hope that the affiliate and online courses will run and that if the measures disappear, my agenda will become fuller again. In any case, I also thought that this quarter 1% of my turnover will go to charity, namely Wegloophuis Utrecht. Hopefully some sales have been made, otherwise it is not much they will get.

The 5 lessons I learned from the book Blondies invest better

I share 5 lessons with you that I learned from the book Blondies Invest Better (Dutch book Blondjes beleggen beter). Well, I am far from blonde, but a woman so this title appealed to me. Plus I am looking into investing so this book came at a good time. The book contains many good tips and explains many terms from the investment world. So a must for beginners to read.

Lesson 1: Investing is possible in anything

You can invest in:

  • Own company
  • Antiques
  • Art
  • Classic cars
  • Holiday home
  • Crypto Currency
  • On the stock exchange: Shares, bonds and other securities.

This book is about investing in the stock market. I have been investing in crowdfunding since 2013 and with savings you get very little return in Europe. So the next step is to invest appropriately on the stock market. The book discusses the different ways of investing on the stock exchange.

Lesson 2: You can practice investing

The book lists a number of “games” with which you can practice investing on the stock exchange. A good step as a first time investor to invest with fictitious money. Note that the games are mainly about short-term profit, while in practice investing in investing is long-term profit.

Lesson 3: Diversification is the magic word

I will continue to save to have a buffer for unexpected events. I am thinking of having a constant 3 months income on my savings account. So if you use it immediately replenish. Furthermore, I have now set up crowdfunding quite nicely and I earn from it. So I will continue to do that. Now it is time to start investing, there too I go into investing for diversification. For example, I let Brightpensioen invest for me and I will invest myself through Degiro. I will seek diversification in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. So a mix of these.

Lesson 4: Map your finances

For years I have been making a budget for my company Databeet as well as for private use, so I map out my finances. In addition, I set goals. In the book, the writer gives the tip to set both 5-year goals and 5-10-year goals, because you have to take this into account when you make your choice in what you invest.

Lesson 5: Set a limit for buying and selling and check your order

You can set for how much money you want to buy a certain share and how much and then the system automatically executes this assignment for you when that price is reached. It is also useful to set a limit on which you want to sell. And a very important tip is to check your order before sending it, so that you don’t buy too many / too few or weird things.

Databeet story

Databeet story

The Databeet story begins on August 13, 2012, on the day of the left-handers. I myself am left-handed, which gives this day extra meaning. Before this date I came up with a name and had a logo made. Oh and I already had my first assignment!

Origin name Databeet

The name Databeet in a pun on Alphabete and good with data. The idea came to me during a yoga class. We were in a resting position at the end of the lesson when the name once came in as a thought. You understand I ran home after class and wrote down the Name.

Happy with name

I certainly don’t regret the name because at first it covered everything I did. Even now I am happy with it, despite the fact that my activities have expanded beyond the scope of the name Databeet. I will continue to use the name Databeet as the company name.

Intro video

Because I would work with video a lot in the future, I had video intro designed. I had an idea and was looking for a professional to work it out for me. The results are impressive. The intro tells the Databeet story. Meanwhile I use this recognizable in all my video expressions at the beginning and end. I am very happy with it as with my logo.

Logo Databeet

When I got my name I had no idea how to design what I thought of as a logo myself. I went looking for a designer and came up with a very specific idea, but luckily she understood me and the logo was done. My logo also tells the Databeet story.

Colors Databeet

Databeet’s first colors were green, gray and white. These combine well with each other. Later an orange was added that I sometimes use in expressions when I need a fourth color.

So now you know how my company got its name. I am curious about the story behind your company name.

Travel stories inspiration

Inspiration

I follow a Travel Stories course on Instagram. There we were asked who inspire you with their writing about travel. I had to think about it, because I immediately thought of books, but I read more about being an entrepreneur than about traveling when it comes to books. Until I figured out blogs are also stories and so slowly came to the surface who inspired me.

Claudia from My adventures across the world

My adventures across the world by Claudia. Claudia inspires me by daring to take the step from academic lawyer to blogger. She calls herself an unsuccessful backpacker, but has become a successful travel blogger in the space of a few years. In 2013 I met her in Cuba not happy with her life at the time and it clicked and we kept in touch and about a year later we both opted for change and she was a travel blogger. Claudia describes extensively the locations she visits in her travels and of course also Sardinia, her island.

Suzanne of Free girl (Vrije meid)

Another blogger who inspires me is Suzanne from Vrije meid. She also left a law career to have more freedom to travel. She inspires in a different way because she strives for a career besides traveling.

Esther from Esther Jacobs

Then I realized that I have a ‘travel writer’ that inspires me, namely Esther. The theme of freedom is also very important to her. She inspires because I recognize the action in her.

Wonderful Work (Wonderlijk werken)

A newsletter that is about freedom, but then in doing what you want yourself is from Wonderlijk werken. They always surprise with their perspectives on a subject. That is why I look forward and I am very happy with mail from Diana and Steven from Wonderlijk Werken.

Kitty from The Blog Academy (De blogacademie)

I’ve heard that you should always choose an odd number in your blogs so one more. Kitty’s blog academy. No, no she is not so fond of traveling and is now concerned with the climate. What appeals to me is her willfulness and how she loses herself in a good way. She wants to know all about it and shares it with everyone until she gets tired of a subject.

There are probably more that inspire me, but these are the most important. I love reading these five and I’m a little jealous of their writing style.

I wrote this blog for the assignment who inspire you with their Travel Stories from the Instagram Travel Stories writing course. It is a series of three assignments. You can read the other 2 assignments here: Assignment 2 describe your environment and 3 describe a violent or special moment in your journey.

A simple Address book template in Excel

Address book template

With this template you can save all your adresses and phonenumbers of the people you know. There are a few benefits of having a Excel Address book above having it on paper:

  • When somebody moves or changes phonenumber you can easily change it without making a mess in the Address book.
  • If you save it in a place like dropbox, onedrive or googledrive you can Always use it on all your devices connected to those boxes.
  • You can look up things in different ways in Excel compared to in a ‘normal’ address book where you can only look up one way on alphabet. In Excel you can look up on their name, last name, Phone number, etc.

Address book Excel

Let’s get a look at the template. There are the following columns:

  • Name
  • Lastname
  • Subject
  • Phonenumber 1-6
  • Email
  • Address
  • Zipcode
  • City
  • Country
  • Comments

Search with Ctrl & f

You can look up things with ctrl+f. A box opens up in which you fill in the name or number you want to look up. It then searches for it and gives you the results.

Search with ctrl and f

Search with filter

On top of the file you see the filters. Open the filter. You can choose to sort alphabetically or choose all the names with an e. The first one sorts everything alphabetically on first name. You can sort alphabetically in each column. The second one gives you all the names starting with an e.

Search with filter

You can download the Dutch or English template. Have fun using the template.

Other Excel templates can be found here. If you want to upgrade your Excel knowledge see the possibilities here. You can also read more blogs about Excel.

Dealing better with money

Since I work for myself I earn less, but it seems like I can do more. Not only do I have more time for fun things, there is also money for it.

Earn less and do more

I started to work more and more with the profit first idea. I already appeared to do it in part without knowing the term. I started making a budget for my company. At the time I knew what I had to earn to cover my fixed costs for Databeet. By also making a budget for private and including it in the Databeet budget, I had an idea what my fixed costs are for both private and Databeet and how much I have to earn.

Put aside

I didn’t leave it at that. I also started saving how small the amount was at the start of my career as an entrepreneur. That is why I built a buffer for myself and my company, Databeet.

Paying yourself

After reading Profit First I also started paying myself a salary. I did not leave it at that I started a savings account for each type of cost I had. Every invoice that I sent and was paid, I divided the invoice amount among the various saving accounts according to a fixed percentage per cost category. So I made one regular business account, 1 private account and 7 savings accounts. The 7 savings accounts I gave the following names:

  • Study: From this account I pay all the studies I want to do.
  • Marketing: With this I pay all the marketing stuff for my company.
  • VAT and Taxes: This account pays all my VAT and taxes
  • Travel costs: I sometimes travel for business. This is paid by this account.
  • Crowdfunding: With opening this account I am trying to work on my retirement money. I invest in crowfunding and bonds to make more money.
  • Profit: This account is my profit account. I am building a buffer with this account. So my company can survive difficult times and also buy special things.
  • Fixed charges: All the (fixed) cost of my company are paid from this.
  • And the Account named Guiselaine is my private account. The money in this account is to use on my private costs and savings.

As you can see in the picture each cost has a fixed percent of the invoice I earn going to it. I tried this for a year. I liked it and changed the fixed percentages till I found the right one for me. And when I noticed this was working I wanted to do this also for my private account.

Cost savings accounts for Business

Private Account

So now I am the proud owner of several private accounts, so that I also have a better grip on my money there. The accounts I made for the different costs look like this:

  • Fixed charges: Cost like rent, municipal taxes, water, electricity and heat, etc are paid from this account.
  • Savings: On this account I save to have a buffer and also special things I want.
  • Groceries: With this account I pay the groceries.
  • Travel: Yes I love to travel so I make sure an fixed amount is going to this to me important item.
  • Clothes: Yes, I need some clothes during the year so I make sure I have to money for it when needed by having a account for it.
  • House & Balcony: The house needs stuff like plants or when things break. With a separate account for this I know that when I need the money for it, it will be there.

In the table below you see how I a located the percentages. This works for me, for you it might be slightly different.

Private account

With doing this I am a proud owner of retirement money, a buffer and money to dedicate to my costs. I know what I have and what I spent. And I think I spent it smart.

If you whant to do this too. You can download the Excel Sheet I made especially for this. There is an English and a Dutch version!

Try it for yourself and be happy!

Using the Excel

Excel sheet for dividing money

As you can see I made an example for you in the picture above. If I earned 100 euros with my invoice I fill it in the yellow box below earnings and Excel divides the money for me to the different accounts with the fixed percentages I decided before.

The only thing left for me to do is transfer the money from my regular account to the different accounts. I do this with each invoice that is paid to me. You can also do this once a month if that suits you better.

In the second part of the picture you can see how the money is divided on my private account to my private costs and savings.

Have fun using this Excel template. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. In the mean while you can also read other blogs about Excel or use other Templates made in Excel. If you want to acquire more knowledge in Excel see this page for the courses Excel I give.

Leaving 2019 behind and starting 2020

2019 was over before I could blink. I hope 2020 last longer. What happend in 2019? And what am I looking forward to in 2020?

Winning 5.000 euro for Stichting Verloren Jaren

I am on the board of NGO Verloren Jaren (Lost Years). With this NGO we won 5.000 euro for the things we are doing with peersupport and working on combatting Stigma.

From 3 websites to 1 website

I had 3 website for each thing I did , but found it a hassle. So now back to one website with everything on it what I do, my blog and interviews with interesting people. You can find it on wanderingguiselaine.

Interviews with interesting people

This year I talked with a few interesting people about what they do and how they want to change the world. You can find these interviews on https://wanderingguiselaine.nl/interviews/ .

Wandelen naar Jezelf

Wandelen naar Jezelf means walking to yourself. It means getting to know yourself better by doing workshops and hikes. Last year we organized a midweek on Ameland and this year on Terschelling. The group particpated in workshops about getting to know what you want and we made 3 hikes in which we had one on one conversations about what the participants wanted with their lives, working on dreams. I organized this together with Herstelreizen.

Hiking the Pieterpad

In Spring 2019 I started hiking Pieterpad. I am on 1/4 of the route. Because of dead of my grandmother and moving I couldn’t hike more. I hope to finish the route in 2020.

4 Days Marbella Hike

In the fall I went to Marbella to hike for four days around there. It was nice to do. I walked places I would see on a normal vacation to Marbella. A look if that part of Spain is a place is I would like to setup my tiny house with a garden. No it is not THE Place, but I will keep doing other 4 Days walk of 20K in Southern Europe to find the perfect spot for my Tiny house with garden.

WordPress Conference in Berlin

At the beginning of the summer I went to Berlin for a WordPress conference. There I got to know more about the future of WordPress, blogging and SEO. It was a nice trip and I got to see a bit more of Berlin. It was my third visit to the city.

Christmas Market

Seeing a Christmas market in Germany was on my to do list. So I went to Koln in November, but it was one day too early for the Christmas market. So I have to go to another city in Germany again next year to experience the German Christmas market.

Night of the refugee

At the beginning of the summer I walked 40k through the night from Rotterdam to Den Haag for the NGO refugees. It was hard, but a nice experience. This year I will walk again 40K but then from Utrecht to Amersfoort if possible. You can support the cause.

What will 2020 bring

Next year I want:

  • To have a higher revenue. I hope to earn with my blog, writing articles, selling books, investing in crowdfunding and bonds and online courses as passive income.
  • Also I want to read 52 books 2020. I have a list of more than 300 books I want to read.
  • I would love to go on 1 workation in 2020. Last year I went on workation to Berlin and Curacao.
  • It would be fun if I could also develop furtther earning from hiking workation/vacations.
  •  Not work related wishes for 2020 are: I would love to loose 20KG, play tennis again, make a few travels and put more money a side.

Digital diarrhea

There is so much online! We could spend our entire life searching online from birth till dead without doing anything else.  Having so much information online is a good and bad thing. Good because everybody can read up about a subject. So people can know more about the subject that interest them. But there is also a lot of crap online. This is where you have to decide when reading something online if it is ok information or crap. There is no directory for this. Everybody has to investigate this for themselves.

Another thing what can happen when you look for information online is that you keep looking and start going for parts of the subject you were interested in instead of the subject itself.  Then you find something and Google that, and find another thing and Google that and so on. It’s a bit like diarrhea, it goes on and on. This is when information over flow comes near.

So the best thing to do when researching a subject online:

  • Have a list of keywords you are going to look up
  • Set a time limit on your search
  • Go for good information and not crap ones
  • Is your source reliable?
  • Have a lot of different opinions on a subject read them all and form your own opinion on the subject.

Wordcamp a must if you do WordPress

Wordcamp Europe

I have been eyeing the Wordcamp congress for years. I even subscribed to one years ago, but didn’t make it. But this year I was dedicated to go to a few.

Wordcamp Utrecht

My first Wordcamp was the one in Utrecht. I got to experience it and it was interesting. Lots of talks. So an overload of information.

Wordcamp Rotterdam

The one in Utrecht was good so I decided to go to another one, the one in Rotterdam. I went for the talks about blogging, SEO and worklife balance. It was good. So good I decided that Wordcamp Europe should also be added to my schedule.

Wordcamp Europe

Wordcamp Europe was held in Berlin this year. So I got to travel to Berlin and see some more of Berlin. It was my second time in Berlin. I was there years ago for a conference on digital nomadisme. A whole other thing although a few WordPress people are nomads.

Back to the subject Wordcamp Europe. It had some nice talks about writing blogs, free software, but the most remarkable thing was that Marcel hiked to Berlin, 700 km, from his home town Berkel & Roderijs (near Rotterdam). He did this to get sponsor money for people who can’t afford going to Wordcamp. With this money these people are able to travel to Wordcamps around the world. He got more than 8,000 euros for this action. This can send a lot of people to the Wordcamps in the future.

Next Wordcamp

If the program is interesting I will do Wordcamp Utrecht and Rotterdam again, but Wordcamp Europe is already in my agenda! It is held in Porto, Portugal next year! So maybe see you in Porto?

Track worked hours in Excel

For the tax authorities you have to keep track of how many hours you spend on your company to meet the hours criterion. It is also useful for yourself to keep track of how many hours you spend on something. In the beginning I kept that detailed in Excel. I would like to share this Excel (Dutch version) with you.

The Excel

All tabs

The first picture gives you an overview of the tabs that are available. For every week I have created a tab and given a number. These are the weeks in which you can indicate your hours per week. In the Memo tab you can see calculations with the number of hours worked and in the tab Year overview hours you can see the amount of hours that you have spent per project in a year.

The week

Week

On the tabs week 1 to week 52 you fill in the hours you spent on a certain project. The names of the projects appear here themselves, because you enter them on the tab Year overview hours. You look up the date and project and then arrive at a cell and fill in how many hours you have worked on the project that day.

The system automatically counts on how many hours you have worked that day or week. In column J you can see how many hours you spent on the project in that week.

To use this Excel for another year, copy the file. Empty it with the entered hours. And at week 1 on Monday you enter the date that falls on Monday in the week of 1 January. Fore 2019 this is 31 Dec. If you fill this in, the other data will change automatically and the overview will be ready for another year.

Excel tab Annual overview hours

Year overview hours

In the Annual overview hours tab you enter the projects you are working on. This is possible at any time. You do not have to put all projects down at once. First note down the project and then the hours in the week tabs, otherwise you do not see which project is involved. This is possible in Column A. At indirect hours I have already put some things fore you. Be free to adjust them. This can be done on this tab.

In column BC you see the total number of hours you have worked in the year on a project. I have hidden the intermediate columns, with the hours per week. They would only make the overview unclear.

Memo tab

Memo

You do not have to fill in anything on the Memo tab. You only read data here. So you can see if you meet the 1225 hours of the tax office or how many hours you still miss. You can also see for each project how large that share of hours is compared to the total number of hours.

Have fun with it, please let me know if you have any questions: gmcapella[@]yahoo.com. You can also read other blogs about Excel or use another Excel template. If you want to improve your Excel skills browse my Excel courses and see if there is one for you.

Create declaration form in Excel

Sometimes you have to declare costs to others. Then it is useful to use Excel. Even more convenient is if you create a template in Excel (Dutch version) in advance that you can always use for declarations and do not have to make it over and over again. You can use this declaration template.

Declaration template in Excel

Declaration form

The declaration form in Excel works as follows. Above you can enter a date, your name and personnel number if applicable.

In row 8 you enter your first declaration. In cell A8 comes the date of the receipt, invoice or travel date. In C8 the VAT percentage that applies as shown. And in D8 the amount including VAT. In E8 it automatically calculates the VAT amount. This way you also fill in the other rows with your declarations.

A filled declaration form

On line 23 the total amount of your declaration will appear and also the entire VAT amount. This way you can easily send a declaration to an organization or company.

In need of more Excel templates ready to use? Have a look in my other Excel templates. You can also read more about Excel in my Excel blogs. If you want to improve your Excel Skills feel free to browse through my Excel courses.

Create invoices in Excel

If you do not have an accounting program that makes invoices. You can do this in Word or Excel. In Word you need a calculator to do the calculations or you do them in Excel and then move them to your Word document. I therefore created a billing system in Excel that is easy to use. You can download (Dutch version) and use the Excel invoice system. Below is the explanation.

Enter invoice data

Invoices

On the tab 2020 Invoice you can see the invoice numbers in Column A. These are in order as the tax authorities require. If you need more than 30 invoices, you can extend the list downwards and copy and make new tabs for invoice 31 and further.

In Column B you enter the client, in column C the person to whom the invoice is to go, In column D the address of the company, In column E the postcode and Column F the place of residence of the company. In column G comes the date of the invoice. Often the date that you create the invoice. In Column H you enter the amount you want to collect excluding VAT. In Column I you give a description of your service.

VAT

Total

In column J and K you do not have to do anything in it when calculating H the amounts are calculated. The formula with which this is done can be seen in the figures above.

In column L you can keep track of whether the invoice has been paid and in Column M you have to think about when you for example send a reminder or a term that is different than the 2 weeks on the invoice.

Each line is a different invoice. You can see the details you enter on the tab with the same invoice number.

The invoice itself

Invoice

Each invoice has its own tab, in which the details entered on the Invoices tab are automatically entered.

On the Invoice tab 202001 You still need to replace Right above Address, Postcode and city with your own address. This also applies to A22 in which you have to enter your bank account number, company name and city. And also A30- A38 fill in your own details. Once entered on the Invoice 202001 tab it is automatically adjusted in the other tabs.

Send invoice

Save invoice

You can not send the Excel to your client. You want to send a PDF this can be done after you have entered everything in for example tab Invoice 202001 and then choose files for copy save. In leaf that opens, choose the folder in which you want to save it. You give the invoice a name. The most convenient is the invoice number, client name and assignment name. When saving as choose PDF. Then click on save and then you have an invoice in pdf that you can send to your client.

If you have any questions or want to expand the invoice system, please feel free to contact me. Other Excel templates can be found on the Templates page. Read also more about Excel in my other Excel blogs. Improve your Excel with my Excel courses.

Do your administration in Excel

When you start you probably do not have a bookkeeping program or you are a fan of Excel or like to keep track of your bookkeeping yourself. Anyway with this simple template (Dutch version) you can do your accounting in Excel.

Building of your Administration in Excel

Administration-in-Excel

The administration template in Excel consists of a tab for each month of the year and a tab called VAT. On the VAT tab your turnover and VAT per month are calculated, more on this later. And on the tabs of the months you do your actual administration. Let’s start with that

Income and costs

Montly income and costs

We take the tab Jan as an example. In the first orange column, we enter the income and the costs in the 2nd orange column. Every income or expense gets a separate line in this tab.

So the first income comes on line 5. At client A5 you enter the name of the client. At B5 you set the description of the assignment. At C5 the category of type of work. At D5 comes the date that the invoice has been paid. Depending on when you fill this in, it may be that you only fill in the date later. I fill in this schedule as soon as I issue an invoice, but leave the date field empty until the invoice has been paid and then enter that date.At E5 comes the amount that the client owes you exclusive of VAT. At F5 comes the VAT they owe you. In G5, the system automatically counts the total amount they owe you (amount excluding VAT + VAT). This way you enter all your income for January.

On line 9, the system gives you total income excluding both VAT (E9) and VAT (G9). And in F9 the total VAT that you have to pay this month.

You enter the costs in the same way. In A13, the supplier from a product or service. In B13 the description of the service / product. C13 the category of the product or service. You can think of: travel costs, network costs, study costs, operating costs, etc.

In D13 comes the date of purchase product or service. In E13 the amount excluding VAT and in F13 the VAT you paid for the product. In G13, the amount excluding VAT and VAT is added together. This way you enter all your costs for January in this case.

At the end, the total costs for you in line 28 is given. In E28 the amount of costs excluding VAT, F28 the VAT you have to pay and G28 the total amount including VAT.

VAT and Turnover per quarter

VAT and Turnover quarterly

On the VAT tab, everything is automatically calculated when you enter the tabs of the months. In Column B you see the VAT you paid, in column C the VAT received. In column D the difference between received and paid VAT. This is the amount that you have to pay or receive in VAT from the tax authorities.

In Column E you see your gross sales excluding VAT. In column F the quarterly expense Excluding VAT. And in Column G you gross profit before tax per quarter.

If you turn a small turnover with no more than 1345 in VAT to pay, you can use Column I, J and K to get VAT back.

If you have any questions about this administration system or want to expand it, you can contact me. Other Excel templates can be found on the Templates pagina. Read more about Excel in my other Excel blogs. Improve your Excel skilss with my Excel lessons.

Utrecht to Amsterdam is not a big distance, so I chose to do Business Economics in Amsterdam instead of in Utrecht. The main attraction was that Business Economics in Amsterdam had sport, besides that it was better rated than in Utrecht.

In the 4 years that the study lasted, I got to know all kinds of sports and networking when playing sports. A nice and beautiful way of networking. It is often casual and interspersed with serious sports.

Nothing more fun to fight while working out in different teams to win and then work on an assignment together in a project team. Then you learn to deal with each other.

During this period I obtained my diving certificate, did a wine tasting introduction course, snooker course, but also played tennis, golf, basketball, etc. Sports were taken seriously during the study and the rules of the sports were offered extensively. Because of this I can still talk about many sports and participate at a beginner level. Which makes networking easier when watching sports.

You get to know people in a different way during exercise. The fanaticism of some, the born leaders who take the lead in the game. The team players, those who can work well together on and off the field. We gained people’s knowledge with sports. Very useful in everyday life and networking.

Why I can walk the Camino, but not learn to program

When it comes to walking, tennis and a few other things, I can apply the focus, concentration and motivation to achieve my goal. Then Gladwell‘s 10,000 hour rule is doable. While if I intend to learn to program, I spend no more than 1 hour behind my computer and then I have lost my motivation.

Will the difference lie in the interest you have in something? You are willing and able to do more if something interests you. I can walk for hours to practice for the 4Daagse or the Camino, but to program I can’t motivate myself to get behind the computer. It has nothing to do with computing, because figuring out for a trip I can get behind it for hours. So that 10,000 hours is only achievable if it is in your area of interest, I think.

Do you also have something that you cannot set yourself to do?

How do you start entrepreneurship?

Dare to start entrepreneurship is not the problem with me, but what you are going to offer is. I found out by first working as an employee. Something that I did with pleasure, but wanted to distance myself from.

My orientation towards entrepreneurship starts with searching on Twitter for independent entrepreneurs. I have already received the image of “large” organizations in my studies and employment. How do they do it? What do they offer? Am I competing with my old bosses? Will I deliver products that I like to make or especially products that generate money.

Networking, I have stayed away from as an employee, starts with me visiting them. And having, conversations with others about how they got what they want out of life. And with those who have just started or are planning to start.

I make a lot of versions of a business plan for myself and go back and forth between them. I practice with Excel and Access. It annoys me, because this is how I find out what I do not want to offer in my first years as an entrepreneur. That I can motivate some people, that I am good at explaining things and that I can learn something new quickly if I want are the things I am good at.

But after 5 years of entrepreneurship, it is time to start specializing in the direction that I am gradually taking. It is also actually indicated on my website under hire and customized workshops. Feel free to take a look and hear your input on how I can further specify the subjects mentioned there.

The guru question that is always asked

I have to supervise the calculation test that serves as the entrance test for the communication study. While I look around and observe the new students, I think about the test they have to take, a math test. It doesn’t seem so difficult to me, but yes I have had years of high school math and these are fresh just finished high school students without math in their package.

I look around again and think about what they can do with this study after the study and then have to think of the gurus. Many gurus talk about doing what you enjoyed as a child. What did I like as a child?

Being in the garden, working out as a profession and I can remember that I enjoyed making editorial sums. I try to solve a few of those mathtests in the exam. And look around again and see a few sighing. As easy as I find it is apparently not for them.

I mused further what would a guru advise me to do for a job if I told them that the garden interested me, sports and editorial fees? Can a combination be made with those three? These prospective students are going to study communication, would language be their favorite subject? What did you enjoy doing as a child?

My prejudice against accounting firms

During the study of Business economics, in the first 2 years you will mainly get to know your fellow students and those who teach. In addition to the courses that are given, a project is started every six months that must contain substantive components of all the courses that you receive in that six months plus the subject that it concerns. The creativity of types of companies that we want to set up is often solved by walking in Amsterdam or telling each other small pieces from our background. In particular, this background in which we differ from each other creates a bond in one way or another, making the projects run so smoothly and there is room for discussion and addressing each other about behavior related to the project. The smooth running of the project is mainly due to the confidence that we create in working together. It is agreed in advance who does what and who is the project manager and when something should be finished. In the later years too, the projects are when the group dynamics are broken and you start carrying out projects with other economic studies or on behalf of organizations, the cooperation is better than I encounter later in working life or entrepreneurship.

What surprises me is that we are not all graduating at the same time, but now I would recognize all those faces that I have worked with in the first two years and I am grateful that we learned how projects should be there, but in work as money, power relations, elbows, etc play a part, you will notice that those projects were a simulation.

The working life can also be translated into real life. Also there is that balance that you would so much like to find sometimes by envy, growing apart, not letting go, etc. Actually the misunderstanding for each other!

I don’t want to go back to the protected environment that my friends were in Eindhoven at the time and to study Business Economics, but I am curious about how they are doing in life. And whether they are at a crossroads again in their lives.

From a mandatory desk to a chosen place to work

Now that I am in the reflection period of my entrepreneurship and want to make a combination of entrepreneurship and part-time work, I am walking through old online documents. To my great annoyance, I come across a report written as a group in the 4th year of business economics, in which we link time management to ergonomics. Time management is something I always try to control, but most of the time I run into a system or another incident that tells me that some parts of time management are not controllable by me.

“Ergonomics is the science of work based on the truths derived from the discipline of natural sciences.”

Back to ergonomics a word I didn’t know, but when it was discussed it was already used in my daily life. The way of lifting a box, the way of walking, etc. Ergonomics was even described in the law. Something that I find so strange, your sitting posture behind the desk is legally determined regardless of your build, but taking into account your height. A law that came into existence in 1889 and developed further as knowledge about it increased, but was not introduced to working life until 1983.

Years Event
1857 First definition of ergonomics (Jastrzebowski)
1889 Institution labor law
1932 Establishment Central Organization Applied Natural Science Research (TNO)1945Establishment of ergonomic research society (ERS)
1945 Establishment of ergonomic research society (ERS)
1950 Establishment of a pure scientific research organization (ZWO)
1953 First edition technology and safety
1956 Establishment of a committee for occupational medical research
1957 First edition ergonomics
1963 Establishment of the Dutch Association for Ergonomics (NVvE)
1971 Establishment of working group ergonomics, th Twente (we)
1975 Establishment Committee ergonomics courses (KKE)
1976 First edition prevention
1977 First edition magazine for labor and awareness conference ergonomics (organization nvve)
1980 Establishment committee ergonomic investigation (keo)
1983 Start of the introduction of the Working Conditions Act
1983 Start telecom course ergonomics
1985 First edition health and safety news, health and safety vision, magazine for labor issues, health and safety magazine
1986 First edition health and safety bulletin
1988 First edition health and safety science, sound, health and safety science magazine, working conditions
1990 Final phase Health and Safety Act in force
1991 Edition of the ergonomics handbook: the state of ergonomics in the Working Conditions Act (Samson company information)
1992 Development of inspection method for working conditions
1995 Start of Dutch training in ergonomics

The Working Conditions Act can be found extensively on the fnv website. In this law, screen work, controls, office chair and worktop are discussed in detail. To the mm how to adjust them. The moment I read it through, I find it both interesting and I agree that there must be rules about the setting of attributes. What I come across is that no alternatives are offered, which means that small entrepreneurs who do not have a whole department to delve into it must themselves seek out the Occupational Health and Safety Act and ergonomics. A cost item that you do not think about when you start entrepreneurship and later wish that you do not have to spend money on it.

Ergonomics can indeed prevent poor posture and perhaps the well-known RSI. RSI is a broad concept, because it is a collection of complaints where it is not always possible to find out what the cause is. That action must be taken on those complaints is something that is certain as your body warns you. RSI is also actually a trauma of the muscles that cry for attention in one way or another, namely rest or a lesser burden on it. It can also be a nerve that gets trapped, but then it has to do with shifts in bones, muscles, cartilage in your body that indicate a new position that your body needs to get used to slowly, making you more flexible or a warning that this is an attitude that is not ok for you. Which it is depends on the person. It is clear, however, that if these symptoms persist for a long time this is not ok and you have to let go of the posture and maybe have to go to the doctor.

Why I read this report again is that during my paid employment period I was pretty much bothered by RSI complaints when I think about it afterwards, but I never encountered it in my entrepreneurship. That is why the freedom to work part-time or to work for a certain period of time will mainly depend on the freedom I can get to be able to apply the ergonomics that I have mastered in my entrepreneurship also in dialogue in my work with a boss . This includes not too long days, no full-time job, working from home and not sitting behind a laptop all day.

Skype the new mobile?

Skype is one of the few messengers that survives after a boom of messengers such as ICQ, MSN, Viber, Wattsapp, Telegram, Hangout. The reason is that Skype was immediately available for mobile and laptop. It is also a heavier program that immediately had all the features needed to use Skype in business instead of the phone.

After Microsoft had purchased Skype, it was further developed to the standards of today and became part of Microsoft’s fixed offering. Still a visionary that Bil Gates, but yes competition is lurking Wattsapp and Hangout. Hangout’s life depends on what Google will ultimately choose as its core business. Wattsapp is so integrated that it annoys people with all those wattsapp groups, but yes it is from Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg has had enough of Facebook. I am curious what he is currently developing!

Back to the subject, with a Skype manualThe numbers correspond to the numbers in the photos and explain what that button or component does.

  1. Select a smiley
  2. With this you choose to be able to type texts
  3. Sends typed messages
  4. This is the call button, with this you call
  5. This is the video button. This turns the video on or off.
  6. Here you type your message.
  7. Sends messages
  8. In this article the messages from both you and your conversation partner are displayed, the chat.
  9. Here you can see if someone is online (on the internet). You can only call if someone is online. You may want to leave a message for someone if they are not online.
  10. Settings: Here you can change your name, photo and text.

I won’t start using shortcuts

Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts are key combinations that allow you to perform a function on your computer without having to use the mouse. The addition quickly is because using this key combination is often faster than performing the corresponding mouse function. Each program often has its own combination of keys that are used as shortcuts. This does not make it easier for the user and often even scares users off. In addition, Windows and Apple do not have the same key combinations. In spite of this, it is worthwhile to delve into, though it is a number of shortcut combination of programs that you often use.

Benefit shortcuts

  • It works faster than a computer mouse (saving time)
  • Fewer actions required, so more efficiently
  • Less concentration (effort) is required (Mouse must be “search” and exactly “aim” in the menu)
  • Ergonomically it is also better because you use your mouse arm less one-sided
  • Has a preventive effect on RSI and can promote recovery through less stress
  • By using shortcut keys you develop your motor memory (with this you also remember pin codes) :-).

How do you discover the shortcut keys

They are often indicated as an alternative to the functions in the menu. Another option is to enter “Keyboard shortcuts” in Help in the program and you will get a list of shortcuts for the program in question. So do you want to save time, sit at the computer healthier and train your memory? Then learn some shortcuts for the programs that you use the most.

It’s in the data so it’s true!

Data-analysis

Everyone uses data to make their point or prove something. Often this is done by interpreting the data the way it suits you as a writer without taking into account a number of factors. Think of: Do the figures give the right picture? A good example of this is described by Renée Romkes in her July 2013 blog about the limitation of the data collected and the conclusions that are attached to it. She rightly points out that the figures on violence against women do not indicate the extent of the violence, but only the number of women who dared to report. Yet we read this number everywhere as THE NUMBER that indicates violence against women.

Is the collected data correct?

A good example of distorted images is the measurement of new visits in Google Analytics. According to the graph, a large proportion of the visitors to my website in the month of August 2013 were new visitors (read = Never visited my site). It would be nice if this were true, but I know that some visitors to my website always disable their cookies. They are therefore always seen as new visitors by Google. So just drawing the conclusion based on this graph that my website only attracts new visitors is not a correct conclusion.

In addition to collecting the wrong data and collecting data incorrectly, it can also go wrong when interpreting data. Data only measures and we connect this data on the basis of our conclusions.

Another example from Google Analytics. Based on statistics, it is possible to look on your website at which places there is a lot of clicking. This is very interesting for web stores, for example bol.com. With these statistics you can see through the color variation what visitors click on the most. By following this data over a longer period you can make statements. For example, that the products in the upper right corner are always clicked on. This means that they go to a deeper layer of the website more often. In this case the explanation of, for example, a book. Is this important yes? The visitor stays on your website, but do they buy the product? Mostly not. So you have a lower conversion from click behavior to revenue.

A better measurement would be that like Amazon and also bol.com use to classify the website according to your interests. Which products did you last buy or view that come on top. Quite annoying if you’ve already bought them before and don’t want to buy the same dress again. But when it comes to books in the same genre you can be tempted to make a purchase if there is money left over. Read larger sales.

Is this a good predictor of sales?

For web stores, but there are more variables that count. Another big one is customer satisfaction, service. This is measurable by putting a survey at the end that the customer fills out, but this is a snapshot. This is only mass data and at large companies BiG Data. But do not forget to occasionally hold an interview or a focus group to find out more about your client. Data alone never gives the answer to the needs of your customers and therefore your revenue growth, because they are just figures to which we attach a statement or conclusion. With this you miss the individual explanation of the explanation behind the data.

What do you want to achieve in 5/10 years?

La vida

The question “What do you want to achieve in 5 years” is often asked during job interviews in any variant. Have I always answered this question honestly? No and yes!

No,

No of course not. In such a conversation you give the desired answer. What did I do beforehand? Viewed the website, the annual report and the puppets that work there. What do they think of their company, quite easy to get out of their communication channels. Oh yes, nowadays Social Media is also among them. Do they fall for it? Never, because what happens when you give the desired answer. They go into something else or they keep asking you how you can do that in their organization. What will they saddle you with? That you will almost describe their position as ideal instead of the position you are applying for. Oops, not the candidate that we want too much competition, we already have too much in the company.

Yes,

It is best to come up with a variant that makes you different from the previous 5 candidates they spoke with, because yes they are corny after 4 previous conversations, especially if there was already a candidate in between or totally NONE. Your chance, they will emphasize it differently and if you have prepared yourself well and they give you the chance then you can finally get to the point. Discuss the project that you have applied for. The latter is the crowbar, how well you and they can guard your limits in the conversation. At that moment it is really you against them until you are hiredYes

The e-mail, phone call a few hours after the conversation. We have 2 candidates for the next round next to you and the conversation is with 3 other colleagues of a little more caliber. The latter can be seen by the way in the function names in the e-mail they send. Is it very no, because if you are the ideal candidate, the introduction is done in 10 minutes or less and you have ended up in task description. The last 10 minutes, because we really have to get back to work. Your person who has been asked exhausted is asked what your last earned salary is. What did I come up with? I still try to provoke them, because I had thought so neatly in role-playing games in business economics. And sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t make them call the first number. And yes, they must always discuss it, because no you ask a much too high salary, even the director does not earn so much!

Next day

When can you start? We can offer you this if you can start within a month. Satisfied? Yes both sides, but yes I have been talking on both sides of the table for years and they have known that from the start. So if they are seriously interested, I will always be presented with a reel bot and that small space to ask for something more in terms of salary and benefits.

1st day

We had contact a month ago. The secretariat sends instructions as to what time I am expected and that everything is arranged. The pass is ready and I will be picked up. We have a number of discussions and together we draw the project out on paper for the division of tasks. We have lunch, a few more names pass by. The moment suprême: the computer switches on and yes my login is still in the making, no longer valid, etc. Only a proposal round?
